Gianna was confused about why we weren’t having a picnic dinner, and Addie, who you can usually count on for a good smile, had a cold which made anything but snuggling nearly impossible. If there’s anything to be learned from taking photos with kids, it is a reminder that photography is only an attempt to freeze a second of life.
At the start of this shoot, the girls weren’t disinterested. But after I instructed Dan and Cara to, “do whatever to make them smile. oh, and try to look composed while doing it,” a real party broke out with babies zooming everywhere. It had to have been hilarious to observe. Parents running, jumping, falling, and bouncing, babies laughing (and sometimes crying), and a photographer rolling around on the ground trying to capture it all.
